Students: Grad Reqs and Time Constraints

Students:

Graduation Requirements

General requirements for the SANS Technology Institute Master of Science degree:

  1. Successful completion of all required courses within five years.
  2. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) or higher.
  3. Fulfillment of all financial obligations to SANS Technology Institute.
  4. Fulfillment of all community requirements

Program Time Constraints

The student has five years to complete the requirements for the SANS Technology Institute's Master of Science program. A relevant major course completed to the Gold level is required for admission. So this reduces the number of courses that must be completed by one. The five years begins from the date of admission, not the date the student takes the first course. Students are expected to complete the exam component of a course within 4 months of the time they are authorized to take the exam which is usually 7 to 10 days after the completion of classes. Students may request an extension on taking the exams. The extension policy is described here.

The research project of each course should be completed in a timely manner after the exam is finished. Details about the research project, including time requirements, are described at http://www.giac.org/gold. If students do not complete the research project within the time limits, then they will receive a grade of Incomplete. They will need to resolve this matter by reapplying for GIAC Gold, paying the GIAC reapplication, and completing the research project with a passing grade. Students should plan the timing of their research projects well since they must make Presentations based on their Gold research; and they must complete the entire Master's Program within five years.
